Mammitas Coffee | Our Story
A taste of home in Iowa City
Mammitas Coffee, Food, & Catering was born from one woman's love of her culture, her family, and her grandmother's table. We opened in the heart of Iowa City to share that warmth with everyone who walks through the door.
Mammita — the name behind it all
Mammitas — More Than a Name
Mammitas is a name passed down through generations.
Growing up, we called my grandmother Mammita. My children call my mother Mammita, and now my grandchildren call me Mammita too.
Just like the name, our recipes have been passed from one generation to the next. The food we serve at Mammitas comes from my grandmother’s recipes, my mother’s recipes, and recipes of my own — each one carrying a little piece of our family, our culture, and our story.
Mammitas isn’t just named after one woman. It represents generations of Mammitas — and the love, food, and hospitality we pass down with them.
Roots across Latin America
Jackie's roots trace back to El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, and Mexico — four countries whose flavors shape every item on our menu.
Memories that became a menu
Café con leche every morning, pan dulce dipped into a warm latte, salsa music filling every room — those childhood memories live in every cup we serve.
Recognized by our community
Jackie and the Mammitas team were named among the top 20 women-owned restaurants in Iowa — an honor that belongs to every guest who has ever pulled up a chair.
